Oeil de Mars
(it’s time for a universal language post)
OeilDeMars is a (modest) interactive visual exploration application. Not quite a game, because there’s no real challenge, but not quite *not* a game either, because you get to move around in the environment. It was designed to explore large-size images such as drawings and photoshop creations from an embodied agent viewpoint.
Anyway, you should just play it (use cursor keys to move around and “F” to go fullscreen). The application might take a few seconds to launch as it uncompresses images that are quite big.
- download OeilDeMars for Windows XP (then: unpack and launch mars.exe)
- download OeilDeMars for MAC Intel running MacOSX 10.5 “Leopard” (then: go to packages-SDL directory, follow instructions in the text file to install SDL and launch OeilDeMars application)
If you want to go further, you can also try level 2 and level 3. To play: simply replace the “data” directory in the original distribution with the one included in the archive. You may also want to create your own levels — all you have to do is use your preferred graphical app (e.g. photoshop, gimp, etc.). Full directions can be found in the readme.html file in the original package.
You may send your link or archive of your own creations to me (niko(at)nemelith(dot)org) and i’ll be happy to put/link them on this page.
Enjoy!
note: OeilDeMars is programmed in C++ using the SDL media library. Source code is free, just ask (i’ll put it on this page as soon as it is cleaned up).
